Why Go Green?

Green Technology is actually a trendy phrase for 'Environmental Technology' or 'Clean Technology'. Specifically though, green technology is that in which the technology is environmentally friendly and is created and used in a way that conserves natural resources and the environment. People usually link recycling, renewable energy and conservation of energy when we talked about green technology.

Basically, the 3Rs were introduced way back into year 2000 in Malaysia. 'Reuse, Reduce, Recycle' was targeted to reduce the waste generation by 22% by the year of 2020. To get started, the campaign was introduced through banner, radio and even television. It was mainly to encourage us to differentiate the waste product for example, papers, glass, plastics and aluminium cans for further recycling purposes. With the improving technologies, today we can even recycle our mobile phone's battery. Recycling of a material would produce a fresh supply of the same material—for example, used paper would be converted into new paper. However, when the product required more energy or too expensive to be recycle, 'Reuse' or 'Reduce' the materials would be taken into consideration. 3Rs reduce the consumption of fresh raw materials, reduce energy usage, reduce air pollution and water pollution causes by land-filling.

Petroleum is the single biggest reason why we need green technology today. With the depleting amount of petroleum, the rise of renewable energy such as solar power is very important to us. Solar power is environmental friendly. It does not pollute the air by releasing carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxide or sulphur dioxide into the atmosphere like many traditional forms of electrical supplies does. Besides, it’s not affected by the supple and demand of fuel and is therefore not subjected to the ever-increasing price of petroleum. Not foegetting the energy from the Sun is practically free. Therefore, it can save our money on our electricity bills when we have it.

Energy conservation refers to efforts made to reduce energy consumption. It's not only about switching off a few lights. It's about using the energy wisely. There are a few products at the market now where energy can be save up to 40%. For example, some of the Panasonic's product such as air-conditioner and refrigerator are installed with one of the newest technology known as Intelligent Inverter. Intelligent Inverter is a Japanese-developed technology that uses precise motor/compressor control to achieve improved efficiency and reduce energy consumption in home appliances. With such technology, appliances operate at the optimal power setting, lowering our monthly electricity costs.

In general, green technology is meant as an alternative source of technology that reduces fossil fuels and demonstrates less damage to human, animal, and plant health, as well as damage to the world. As a citizen of Earth, we always should consider energy conservation in our daily life. There are many benefits to taking care of the energy we use. It is a good thing for all of us to take into consideration as well. The end result is a result that satisfies everyone’s needs.

Even Kermit support go green. :P
